How long can I leave the HOOFix Abscess Kit poultice and boot on my horse before I need to change?
This is really up to you, your vet and your farrier as each situation is different. However, the vets from Ohio State who use the HOOFix Abscess Kit leave the poultice on for 3 days before changing. As long as you rehydrate the poultice, the HOOFix system provides constant effective poulticing to draw out bacteria and help your horse heal faster. The HOOFix Abscess Kit provides 3 ESP pacs so you have nine days of treatment if needed.
The third step in the instructions for the HOOFix Abscess Kit says to soak the horse’s hoof for 10 minutes. What if my horse will not put his foot in a bucket to soak?
Basically all you need to do is get the hoof clean. You could simply rinse the hoof with the Povidone iodine and a little water. We want the hoof to be relatively clean to start. The Epsom Salt Poultice will complete the cleaning job and is an effective healing agent that draws the bacteria out from the hoof abscess.
Can my horse be turned out with the HOOFix Boot on?
Yes, all of the HOOFix boots are made with a sole that incorporates ground tires, so they provide traction while being soft and flexible and do not rub. The body of the boot is made with ballistic nylon, which is strong, yet soft and flexible so it won’t rub.
How long will the HOOFix Emergency Boot last?
Individual wear will vary, depending on the horse and the footing, but we have had customers tell us that boots have lasted up to 5 weeks.
What if the HOOFix Emergency or Emergency Trail Boot turns on my horse's hoof?
Depending on the shape of your horse's hoof, the HOOFix Emergency and Emergency Trail Boots may turn on your horse's hoof. There is no need to worry about this, as the Boots are lined on the inside all the way around with a super strong high-tech fabric, so wear should not be affected significantly
Will the HOOFix Emergency and Emergency Trail Boots really stay on?
Our testers have worn the boot in a variety of footing conditions ... hard, dry ground, soft footing, up and down hills, high grass, mud and through streams and the Boots stayed on. Both boots are made with industrial strength Velcro, which has been designed to work even in damp conditions. (Most Velcro fails when it is wet.) Please be certain to press firmly on the Velcro to “lock” the Velcro hook on to the loop for a secure closure.
What is the difference between the HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot and the HOOFix Emergency Boot?
The HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot and the HOOFix Emergency Boot are both 'spare tire' boots to be used in any emergency.  They are not a permanent shoe replacement, but designed to help protect your horse's hoof should you lose a shoe away from the barn.  The HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot comes with a carrying pouch, a hoof pick, and a pastern band.  The HOOFix Emergency Boot comes with a pastern band.
My HOOFix High-Density Hoof pad seems very firm. I have a hard time pressing in on it. Is it too hard?
HOOFix Pads are created using high performance cellular foam and designed to support the weight of a horse, with the average horse weighing in at 1,100 pounds. The pads provide superior shock absorption as they do not compress all the way to the ground and expand to their original shape once the weight is removed. No other competitive pad will do this. The pony pads are a little bit softer taking in to account the lighter weight of ponies.
What is the difference between the HOOFix High-Density Pad and the HOOFix Custom Pad?
Both pads are made of high performance cellular foam and provide shock absorption and cushion. The HOOFix High-Density Pad is designed to fit inside the HOOFix Emergency Boots and is ¾ of an inch thick. The HOOFix Custom Pad is 3/8 “ thick and can be cut to any size to go in any hoof boot, used alone or under a shoe.
What is the difference between the Equine Scents Hand Creams and the Body Lotions?
Equine Scents Hand Creams are very rich, thick creams enhanced with Shea Butter to soften, moisturize and calm your skin.  Equine Scents Body Lotions are slightly lighter than the Hand Creams, and are enhanced with Aloe Vera and Chamomile to nourish and moisturize ... for use all over your body.
