   What is a hoof abscess?
A hoof abscess is defined as a "bacterial infection in the sensitive structures of the horse's hoof.1 Clinical signs of a hoof abscess include sudden, extreme lameness and pain. Other signs include a hoof wall that is hot to the touch, an increased digital pulse, and, if the condition progresses, the breaking out of an abscess at the coronary band or bulb of the heel."2

Can my horse be turned out with the HOOFix Treatment Boot on?
We do not recommend that a horse be turned out while wearing the HOOFix Treatment Boot.
How long will the HOOFix Treatment Boot last?
The HOOFix Treatment Boot is designed to last through the course of an abscess - approximately 5-7 days - without a shoe. However, individual wear will vary, depending on the horse and the bedding.
What can I do if the HOOFix Treatment Boot turns?
First, make certain that some of the cohesive flexible bandage is on the bottom of the barrier bag.
Second, the HOOFix Treatment Boot is designed for an "average" size hoof. If your horse's hoof is a bit smaller, you can add a bit of cotton to the front toe of the HOOFix Treatment Boot to minimize turning.
What size hoof do HOOFix Boots fit?
Approximately 75% of horses can wear a HOOFix 'Regular Horse' size.
The HOOFix Treatment Boot (also included in the HOOFix Abscess Kit) is sized a bit larger to accommodate poultice and some bandaging.
The HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot and the HOOFix Emergency Boot are true-to-size boots.

Measure your horse’s hoof, width and length.

Compare your measurement to the approximate measurements for boots to select the correct size. Remember our HOOFix boots are fabric boots, so sizes will vary slightly and do not have to be an exact fit for your horse’s hoof:

HOOFix Treatment Boot:
Medium Pony: 4-1/2” wide X 5-1/4 “ long
Regular Horse: 5-3/4” wide X 6-1/2” long
Large Horse: 6-1/2 “ wide X 6-3/4 “ long

HOOFix Emergency Boot and Emergency Trail Boot:
Small Horse: 5” wide X 6” long
Regular Horse: 5-1/2” wide X 6-1/2” long

What if the HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot turns on my horse's hoof?
Depending on the shape of your horse's hoof, the Trail Boot may turn on your horse's hoof. There is no need to worry about this, as the Trail Boot is lined in the inside all the way around with a super strong high-tech fabric, so wear should not be affected significantly.
Will the HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot really stay on?
Our testers have worn the boot in a variety of footing conditions ... hard, dry ground, soft footing, up and down hills, high grass, mud and through streams .. and the Trail Boot stayed on.
What is the difference between the HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot, the HOOFix Emergency Boot, and the HOOFix Treatment Boot?
The HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot and the HOOFix Emergency Boot are both 'spare tire' boots to be used in any emergency when a horse loses a shoe.  They are not a permanent shoe replacement, but designed to help protect your horse's hoof should you lose a shoe away from the barn.  The HOOFix Emergency Trail Boot comes with a carrying pouch, a hoof pick, and a pastern band.  The HOOFix Emergency Boot comes with 2 pastern bands.  The HOOFix Treatment Boot is to be used to help protect the hoof during treatment and designed for horses on stall rest.
What is the difference between the Equine Scents Hand Creams and the Body Lotions?
Equine Scents Hand Creams are very rich, thick creams enhanced with Shea Butter to soften, moisturize and calm your skin.  Equine Scents Body Lotions are slightly lighter than the Hand Creams, and are enhanced with Aloe Vera and Chamomile to nourish and moisturize ... for use all over your body.
